Sometimes we can get so consumed analysing calories, fat ratios, vitamin, etc, we forget about the unbelievable power of traditional herbs/spices – not the KFC variety!!!

As a rule, we westerners don’t use spices nearly enough, so if you are not already, add some or all of the following into your cooking to start reaping some amazing benefits.

1. Fresh ginger – great for digestion/stimulating appetite, anti-platelet &; anti-inflammatory properties and can work brilliantly in reducing things like nausea, morning sickness, bronchitis/asthma etc.

2. Turmeric – arguably the most powerful cancer preventer/fighter in the world, natural anti-histamine, anti-septic renowned for drawing toxins to it, great for cleansing liver etc. f

New research has shown that turmeric reduces alcoholic liver damage in rats.

*Use only in small amounts 4-5 pinch/day max.; don’t overheat.

3. Cardamom – warming herb, good for stomach; lung areas and settling mind generally great for giving a nice sweetness, e.g adding to milky items porridge, cereals

* Note just use small (cooking) amounts. Do not try and treat a condition you may have through a large quantity of a herb/spice. Consult a trained practitioner for any advice concerning a particular condition.
